ev3v4hnBefore this 12 months, Cisco introduced substitution switches to the 1841/2800/3800 routers. The more mature routers have not entirely attained finish of sale, but the more recent routers (1941/2900/3900) offer you big adjustments in router licensing.
Why is it unique? Equivalent to a PIX or ASA, the new routers use license keys and a universal picture to figure out the out there options. This new licensing plan shows a distinct change in between the version of IOS put in and the function established installed. You can improve them independently and they really don’t afect each other.
The license structure has been streamlined, as there are only 4 characteristic sets. None of the offers overlap. They are:
IP Foundation: The default element set. It has help for the most typical routing protocols (RIP, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), widespread WAN systems (MLPPP, MLFR), and common LAN systems (802.1q trunking).
Knowledge: The Info license adds guidance for MPLS, ATM, IS-IS, and non-IP L3 protocols.
Voice: The UC (Unified Communciations) aspect set provides assistance for voice interfaces, CallManager Convey, and Unity Convey modules.
Stability: The Protection function established provides IPSec VPN abilities, SSL VPN capabilities, and IOS firewall attributes.
Cisco lets you to decide and pick far better depending on your software. You will generally require to be anxious with the total of DRAM and Flash memory installed to make confident that you can operate the good capabilities.
Also, test out the overall performance characteristics on the new routers of upgraded ports and processor pace. And, as an option, take into consideration the minimal cost of the older 1841/2800/3800 sequence. A very little imagined can help you save some real dollars here.
